Pedalling for Palestine
05/06/2024 Day 4: Bedford to Ripley
117.6 km, 1166 m climbing, 6 hours 45 minutes, 17.4 kph - this day took me the longest.
[The height profile is at the bottom of the map.]
Bizarre breakfast?
There were a couple of severe hills in the first couple of hours - I had a little rest partway up the first one
The second big hill - time to visit the bushes...
... gels are really helpful when you've pedalled for almost three hours and used up your breakfast ;-)
Lunch stop in Harpenden
You probably wouldn't have guessed, but this is supposed to be a bike path!
Same "path". Is it acceptable for a road to be like this? So, not OK for bike path either!!!
Crossing the Thames at Chertsey - I didn't realise I only had 13 km to go
Ripley - nearly done for the day ;-)
Arriving at Paula & John's - the end of quite a tough day ;-)
Transcript of my Instagram reel for this day
Here again, day four of my pedalling for Palestine ride Bedford to Ripley, which turned out to be 73 miles, not too bad, long, taken me from ten o'clock till quarter past seven, with stops of course. The worst bit was definitely Luton, which had far too many cars, most of which were stopped and in my way! I was a bit bad tempered, but it's bad to be bad tempered because I was cross with a car and then I realized that I'd missed my turn and had to go back. So, you know, karma and so on. Good weather, not too much wind, plenty of coffee, probably far too many gels, but they definitely keep me going. And I can recommend the, er, is it caramel latte a lovely lovely coffee gel. Just pure energy and you glug it down and away you pedal! Bike's going well, I'm going reasonably well, pedalling at least as fast at the end as at the beginning. It's always nice. So tomorrow last day! I should be getting to Brighton about five o'clock. Bye for now.
