Pedalling for Palestine
03/06/2024 Day 1: Pudsey to Lincoln
129.9 km, 586 m climbing, 7 hours 2 minutes, 18.5 kph [Strava figures *]. This day was the longest distance.
[The height profile is at the bottom of the map].
Decided not to take the motorway out of Leeds :-)
After riding for about 50km I was worried that the USB lead from the battery charger pack to the phone was fouling the handlebars, leading to possible damage. Left hand picture shows original setup, right hand one shows result after I turned the holder by 90°, which involved a certain amount of cutting new holes in the white plastic box! Very happy that USB now stayed in place (especially with a cunningly placed rubber band!), so I could rely on having navigation app on phone.
Lunch stop after 70 km, just outside Doncaster.
River Trent, Gainsborough, 100km
River Trent and me, Gainsborough, 100km
*These shots of my bike computer show that evil Stava underestimates both speed and distance! Unfortunately, I don't have the speedo data for the other days :-(
Transcript of my Instagram reel for this day
Here, after day one of my peddling for Palestine. So I've come from Leeds to Lincoln, which is about 130 kilometers. And I'm pleased because I've done it reasonably fast for me. It's either 18 and a half miles an hour, uh, kilometers an hour, if you believe Strava or 20. 2 kilometers an hour, if you believe Cateye, bike computer. Anyway, it was a lot quicker than the Yorkshire rides that I've done, mainly because Lincolnshire doesn't seem to have so many hills. I'm amazed!  Also, and this is important as a cyclist, Lincolnshire drivers are very nice to cyclists. Within the first 10 miles of setting out in Leeds, I had three close passes. Naughty drivers. But here in Lincolnshire, they go right on the other side of the road, really, you know, loads and loads of space and at least two lorries hung back. So I pulled over and gave them a wave because you, you need to be nice to other people as well. So, how am I feeling? I'm feeling good. I'm in my digs after I managed to crack the keypad and find the keys to get in! When I say crack it, I don't mean I broke it, I mean I just worked out how to do it, eventually. And, I've had a shower, so I'm all clean. Need to go out and forage for next day's food. I'd list all the food that I've eaten, but it would take too long and be a bit boring. I might just write that down somewhere. Cyclists definitely pedal on their, you know, pedal with a full tummy. That's the way to do it. So, tomorrow is a much shorter day. I've only got to get from here to my big sister Anne and her husband Bob's in Holbeach. And, I'm looking forward to a flat day, so I should be doing it reasonably, reasonably quickly, I hope. Okay. I imagine I've been talking for a minute, so this will work. Okey dokey. I need to end it. Goodness knows how I do that. Let's see if we can find out...
